Why Looking Good (and Feeling Happy) is an Inside Job

Mind body connection is real. Many of my clients believe that once they lose weight, then they will finally be happy.

The health and beauty industry is all about looking better on the outside as a way to feel happier on the inside. Focusing mostly on calories, measurements, body fat percentage, before & after photos, and aesthetics. The focus and message is simple: “Get your outside (your body) to an optimum weight and your inside (how you feel about yourself) will improve.”

When you work only from the outside-in, the changes are superficial and usually short-lived. If you just focus on eating and exercise, without resolving the deeper issues of self-worth and self-love, it may not be enough to sustain your positive behaviours long term. You may find yourself reverting back to your old ways.

That’s why I work with my clients from the Inside-Out. Together we focus on your mental and emotional health, and how you nourish yourself in these areas. It’s not about knowing more about nutrition and fat loss. There are no meal plans or nutritional information. And you may be relieved to hear, there are no weigh-in’s or before & after photos. Weight loss as a goal is put on the back-burner. You learn to focus on your inner qualities and inner values and following your own intuitive wisdom.

Benefits of the Inside-Out Approach are:

  • obsessing less over food
  • trusting yourself to have chips and cookies in the house
  • respecting and appreciating your body now
  • enjoying your life right now (not 10 kg’s from now)

Mind Body Connection

You learn how to create a healthy relationship with your food, mind and body – where you become the expert of your own body by learning to respond to your internal cues.

This is a process about becoming attuned to your body’s natural hunger and fullness signals. It is also about learning to distinguish between physical and emotional cues of hunger. You learn to trust yourself with food so you can eat any and all food without worry of overeating. This is true body wisdom.

Soul & Body ConnectionLearning to trust your body to tell you what it needs and to trust yourself around food is vitally important for your mental and emotional health which spills out to your physical health. When you don’t have this trust in place you often label yourself as a failure, or hopeless, or a willpower weakling who just needs more discipline. Or worse, you think you have a fundamental character deficit disorder because you can’t stick to a diet. This can lead to feelings of failure, guilt, shame, lowered self-esteem, withdrawal, even anxiety and depression.

Reclaim your power by working from the Inside-Out, rather than the outside-in. Focus on the inner work-out required, and watch the outside change. Let your body be a reflection of your heart and soul. Let the focus be on health promotion, rather than weight management. When you discover your kind heart and your wise soul, when you can hear the call of your intuitive wisdom and can trust yourself with food, when you discover ways to move which bring you joy and pleasure, your body will vibrantly follow along for the ride.

You are not broken and there is nothing to change or fix. It’s a radical notion, given you desperately want to change your eating behaviours. And change you will. But these changes will come from a place of love and acceptance, not hate or judgement. When you see yourself as whole and complete, with nothing wrong and nothing to fix, change happens from a place of love. Instead of hating yourself into change (trying to fix something that is broken or wrong), you will love your self into positive change.

When I work with my clients, I support them to focus on what’s right with them, rather than what’s wrong. Change your focus and you will change your results in the outer world. If you would like to feel free and happy from the Inside-Out, then contact me now to find out how I can support you.
